The Educational Studies Association of Ireland (ESAI) Special Interest Group (SIG) in Digital Learning, in association with the National Institute for Digital Learning (NIDL), is pleased to host an invited talk by Associate Professor Christian Dalsgaard of Aarhus University. The title of Dr Dalsgaar’s presentation is ‘MOOC Learners Lost and Found: Celebrating Online Learning Dropout’.

Professor Dalsgaard invites us to think about dropouts in online learning in Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and in so doing this talk will seek to examine the concepts of completion and dropout in online learning. He will discuss results of qualitiative research that sought to uncover something of the hidden lives of non-completing online learners and what this non-completion might mean.

About the Presenter: Christian Dalsgaard studies how IT and digital media can support individual learning and institutions’ and organizations’ communication and learning. His research area covers IT and learning, digital media, knowledge, communication, collaboration knowledge sharing and organizational learning. The primary focus of his research within IT and digital media is on the web, where he studies the forms of communication that are unique to the internet and the culture that exists on the web. Based on this he examines the potentials of the web to support learning and knowledge sharing. Full bio at http://pure.au.dk/portal/en/persons/id(a032a79a-9405-4ff1-8bf3-2a50865b3d01).html
