Call for Abstracts for ESAI Symposium at AERA 2021

AERA

AERA, April 9th – 12th 2021, Virtual (exact date of ESAI symposium to be confirmed).

Each year the American Educational Research Association (AERA) invites international educational research associations to submit symposia to the AERA annual conference. For many years, the ESAI Executive has submitted a symposium involving ESAI members which encompasses a number of Irish institutions with a symposium theme that provides some scope for a range of inputs and perspectives.

The ESAI Executive invites proposals from members of the Association for individual papers to form part of the ESAI Symposium at AERA 2021. In all, the symposium will include three or four papers over 90 minutes, which should include time for commentary, questions and discussion. The session will also have a chair and a discussant. Submissions may pertain to any education/training sector.

As with previous years, we encourage a range of themes, people (presenters and discussants) and institutions for involvement in the symposium. Key criteria for selecting the papers will include:

  • All authors must have a current ESAI membership (membership details are available online at esai.ie/membership and you can check the current status of your membership by email esaimembership@gmail.com).
  • Preference will be given to papers that include a number of authors (ideally from more than one institution)
  • The involvement of early career academics and researchers is strongly encouraged.
  • Collaborative papers that draw on the expertise of ESAI members North and South, or/and on the expertise of ESAI members internationally, is strongly encouraged.

The AERA 2021 conference theme ‘Accepting Educational Responsibility’ should provide the focus for the ESAI symposium in the first instance, but depending on the submissions received, this focus may change somewhat (see https://www.aera.net/Events-Meetings/Annual-Meeting/2021-Annual-Meeting-Theme).

Please be aware that there is no funding supplied by the ESAI for participation in this symposium.

Proposals should be emailed directly to ESAI at aera@esai.ie no later than Monday November 23rd  2020. A sub-committee of the ESAI Executive will review proposals and compile a symposium that illustrates the breadth and depth of educational research being undertaken by members of the Association. All applicants will be notified of the outcome within two weeks of the closing date for submissions. Proposals should use the template available at the link below:
